The Ward Committees may hold their organizational meetings prior to the City Committee meeting or may establish their own meeting date, time, and location, On Thursday, the six Democratic Ward Committees held their organizational meetings, where officers were elected to represent the voters of Quincy.
The Ward Committees also voted to add new members. Committees are permitted to fill vacancies between Presidential Primaries, when voters elect Committee members.
Following the Ward meetings, the Quincy Democratic City Committee convened to elect officers for the next two-year term. Angela Cristiani was elected Chairperson of the City Committee.
After the elections, the discussion turned to ongoing candidate signature drives, upcoming deadlines, and how the Committees can help increase voter turnout. With the September Primary scheduled earlier than usual—before Labor Day and the start of the school year—it was noted that voting by mail may be the most effective option, allowing voters to participate while still enjoying the end of summer.
Several Quincy candidates were in attendance, along with Greg Connor of Milton, a candidate for Norfolk County District Attorney. The City Committee continues to host candidates at its monthly meetings to give voters an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking office.
Next Tuesday, Greg Connor will join the Committee meeting to speak further about his candidacy and his interest in serving as District Attorney.
The meeting will be held on Zoom or can be attended in person at the NAGE Building, 159 Burgin Parkway.
